The Roadmap To Your Goals

It’s 5:50am and my alarm goes off. I reach over and hit snooze, silencing the alarm and allowing myself to fall back into silence. But, what I don’t do, is actually snooze. Each day, I wake up at the same time, hit the same snooze button, and use those 5 extra minutes to set my intentions for the day. Take a minute to think about your dreams… your goals… your vision for life.

Intention is quite simply the starting point for all of these things. It is the powerful force behind having access to what you dream of, want and need.

Deepak Chopra describes intentions as “directed impulses of consciousness that contains the seed form of that which you aim to create. Like real seeds, intentions can’t grow if you hold on to them. Only when you release intentions into the fertile depths of your consciousness can they grow and flourish”

How can you begin to understand and set your intentions?

Take some quiet time and become aware; aware of your body, aware of your mind. Note the chatter in your brain. What is it saying? Note the sensations in your physical body. How does it feel? Take a few deep breaths and begin to allow the physical and mental tensions fade. It’s time to tune out the noise of your inner naysayer, of your boss, best friend or your spouse.

Now, ask yourself, what is it that you want out of today? Don’t allow the nagging voice of what people think you should want to re-enter your brain space. If you hear it, breathe through it and let fade to the background. Focus back in on what your inner, raw and true self is telling you. What do you need? What do you value? How do you want to feel today?

These are your intentions.

As you go about your routine, keep your intentions in mind. What steps can you take to live in alignment with what you have identified as your goals? How you can you embody what is most important to you?

Allow your intentions to guide you and keep you centered as you move through your day. Allow your them to empower you to reject and move past what is not serving you in your life. Think of your intentions as your roadmap of where you want to go. They become a driving force of your higher consciousness.

Some suggestions for setting an intention:

  1. Keep it positive. It's easy to get caught up in the negativity of our days. Make sure your intention has a positive spin, even if you are going through a rough time in your life. Positivity begets positivity.

  2. Look toward the short term. Think baby steps of how to get yourself to your bigger goals/dreams

  3. Allow your intention to evolve. In the beginning, your intention may be to make it through the day without bursting out in anger. Eventually, your intention may be to address the underlying cause of that anger.

I challenge you to take some time every morning and set an intention for the day. What areas of your life need attention to thrive? What are a few goals that you want to achieve to help you grow into the person you dream of being? Allow your intentions to become your roadmap to tending to and achieving these things.

Now, you don’t have to join me pre-6am wakeup, but consider using that handy snooze button for something other than a few extra zzz’s.
